Work resumed on the temple 521 BC to 517 BC as noted in Ezra. Xerxes ruled 486 BC to 475 BC. He is the one that had the beauty pageant that Esther won (Book of Esther). Xerxes’ son Artaxerxes ruled 475 BC to 424 BC. Artaxerxes decreed that Nehemiah could resume the completion of the temple. He probably knew Esther as a wife of his father Xerxes.
