God created the world in six days then rested the seventh. How do we know how long the seventh is? “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son…” Hebrews 1:1-2
At Pentecost, Peter declared, “In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy.” Acts 2:17-18
Last days can mean anything after the halfway point. Since Adam’s fall was in 4126.25 BC and Jesus was crucified in 32.25 AD, the seventh day can be no longer than 8316 years. According to Moses, “A thousand years in your sight
are like a day that has just gone by,
or like a watch in the night.” Psalm 90:4
If a thousand years are a watch in the night and a thousand years are as a day, it follows that a day can be up to 8,000 years long. (There are 4 watches in the night, a night being half a day). A day could also be 7,000 years long. The declaration that first century Christians were in the ‘last days’ proves that God’s seventh day rest cannot be some huge period like 100,000 years or so.
