Double Portion

“But he shall acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the unloved, by giving him a double portion of all that he has, for he is the beginning of his strength; to him belongs the right of the firstborn.” Deuteronomy 21:17
“but to Hannah he would give a double portion, for he loved Hannah, but the Lord had closed her womb.” 1 Samuel 1:5
“When they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.” 2 Kings 2:9
“Instead of your shame you will have a double portion, And instead of humiliation they will shout for joy over their portion. Therefore they will possess a double portion in their land, Everlasting joy will be theirs.” Isaiah 61:7
“Give back to her as she has given; pay her back double for what she has done. Pour her a double portion from her own cup.” Revelation 18:6

The double portion is either a blessing or a curse. The double portion for Christians is heaven. For Israelites it will be joy and double their land. We can be confident that the borders of Israel in our day will be much larger in the future. For Mystery Babylon, it will be double the evil they did to their enemies.

“After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before. The Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the former part. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys. And he also had seven sons and three daughters. The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah and the third Keren-Happuch. Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job’s daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance along with their brothers.” Job 42:10,12-15
