Giant Sequoias

God has provided abundant evidence of his character and plans for us in nature. The giant sequoias hint at our future. They are the largest tree on the planet, and they never die of old age! They only die if they are knocked over or in rare cases by fire. In fact, one of the amazing things about them is their fire resistance. Fires occur naturally in the forest every five to fifteen years or so. The trees will get fire scars but rarely die from fire. In fact, fire is required for them to thrive. Sequoias take about 800 years to reach maturity. Isn’t that amazing? That’s the better part of a Millennium. Is that about long it will take us to reach maturity in the Millennium? If we assume that not all are resurrected at the very start of the millennium, but are resurrected sometime in the first five hundred years, this provides an average length of time till the end of the millennium. From maturity, Sequoias are described as having the vigor of a teenager forever. There is an interesting prophecy:

“They will not build and another inhabit, They will not plant and another eat; For as the lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people.” Isaiah 65:22

God also uses fire to cleanse his people. “For He is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap. He will sit as a smelter and purifier of silver, and He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, so that they may present to the Lord offerings in righteousness. …” Malachi 3
