The group vs. the individual

Today it is common to hear that the group is more important than the individual. This is the reason individual rights are going out the window in 2021. Since unvaccinated people are putting others at risk (really?!?), their rights can be taken away for the sake of the group. This belief is a variation of the Ends-Justify-the-Means. To put it biblically, “Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?” Romans 6:1

No! The ends do not justify the means and individual rights are not less important than the group. In fact, there are no group rights! If even one individual hurts, the group should help the individual! “What do you think? If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains, and go and search for the one that is lost?” Matthew 18:12

Does Jesus recommend forgetting the one sheep since 99 are probably more valuable anyway? No! The group is strengthened when individual’s rights are upheld. The group is weakened when individual rights are trampled. There is no need to force vaccination any more than there is a need to force teeth brushing. Practices that are beneficial will be adopted voluntarily. Did Jesus force his disciples to do anything? Does God force us to believe? No! Matters far weightier than vaccination are not forced by God. What does that tell us?? The only one who wants to force people is Satan and his followers on earth. Satan is the father of lies, deception, and murder. “You will know them by their fruit.” Matthew 7:16
