No work Sabbaths

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.” Exodus 20:8-11

What does it mean, ‘you shall do no work’? The Jews took this to mean all manner of exertion, but God means that there is to be no regular commerce. Is there a future blessing this way?

“Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters;
And you who have no money come, buy and eat.
Come, buy wine and milk Without money and without cost.” Isaiah 55:1

“Then He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost.” Revelation 21:6

“The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.” Revelation 22:17

Evidently, when all have been resurrected in the Millennium, these prophecies will come true that water and age-lasting life will be free!

Nicolaitans

“I know your deeds and your toil and perseverance, and that you cannot tolerate evil men, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and you found them to be false; and you have perseverance and have endured for My name’s sake, and have not grown weary. But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place—unless you repent. Yet this you do have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God.’” Revelation 2:2-7

Who were these Nicolaitans? Some think it was started by Nicolas, one of the first seven deacons. The teaching seems to have been the clergy-laity concept. Jesus taught that no leader is to lord it over others, but must be a servant. This is totally opposite the world’s version of leadership. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicolaism

The Book of Seven Seals

“I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a book written inside and on the back, sealed up with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?” And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the book or to look into it. Then I began to weep greatly because no one was found worthy to open the book or to look into it; and one of the elders said to me, “Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.” Revelation 5:1-5

Who is the Elder of verse 5? Some have suggested Isaiah, because he is the prophet who most told of Jesus’ suffering and triumph.

Ten days

“Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” Revelation 2:10

These ten days were ten years. From 303 to 313 AD, Diocletian tried to destroy the Christian Faith in what is known as the great persecution. It didn’t work.

Revelation 9:1-6

“Then the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from heaven which had fallen to the earth; and the key of the bottomless pit was given to him. He opened the bottomless pit, and smoke went up out of the pit, like the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke of the pit. Then out of the smoke came locusts upon the earth, and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power. They were told not to hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. And they were not permitted to kill anyone, but to torment for five months; and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it stings a man. And in those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, and death flees from them.” Revelation 9:1-6

This may have multiple fulfillments. Five months? 150 days or years. The Papacy was stung with torment for 150 years between the reforms of Wycliffe and Luther (1371 to 1521).

Luke 6:1

The NIV states: “One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels.”

Nothing odd. But look at Young’s Literal translation:
“And it came to pass, on the second-first sabbath, as he is going through the corn fields, that his disciples were plucking the ears, and were eating, rubbing with the hands,”

The second-first Sabbath?? This tells us what time of year. It was the first Sabbath of the second course of 24 weeks of priestly courses. This started Tishri one. The 24 courses of priestly rotation was set up by David (1 Chronicles 27:1-2). So this Sabbath was between the Feast of Trumpets and Yom Kippur.

The Transfiguration

“After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.
Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”
When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.” Matthew 17:1-8

The transfiguration happened a week before the crucifixion. It was Jesus in glory flanked by two of the greatest saints of the Old Testament. The crucifixion was Jesus in total humiliation flanked by two scoundrels. Moses, Elijah, and Jesus are the only three people of the bible to have fasted forty days and nights.

The Star of Bethlehem

What was the star that brought the magi to Bethlehem? Ernest L. Martin makes a good case that it was the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter June 17th, 2 BC. Many important astronomical signs appeared from May 3 BC to December 2 BC. This fits well with the fact that Jesus was born on the Feast of Trumpets 2 BC. Ernest L. Martin says it was 3 BC, but this may be due to a zero year miscalculation. There is no zero year, only a zero point. His book is titled, “The Star That Astonished the World.”

The Second Beast

“Then I saw a second beast, coming out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb, but it spoke like a dragon. It exercised all the authority of the first beast on its behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed. And it performed great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to the earth in full view of the people. Because of the signs it was given power to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived the inhabitants of the earth. It ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived. The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.” Revelation 13:11-18

This second beast is the United States. It was in its ascendancy as Papacy was in decline when the Pope was put in jail in 1798-1799. Verse twelve says that the first beast will be revived by the second. Papacy will be revived by the United States. Personally, this seems impossible to me in 2014. But maybe things will change quickly. Maybe in 50 years or so, such a unification, a forced unification will happen. This may coincide with the mark of the beast. 666 carries a monetary element. The Elites of our day (2014) are actively working towards a cashless society. But it will take a little time. Perhaps when all are forced to buy and sell only using one system worldwide, will there also be power to enforce a unitary religious system worldwide. Personally, I would guess this a couple decades out.

Taxable Trees

“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, you will know them by their fruits.” Matthew 7:15-20

In the first century, trees were taxed. If you had a worthless tree that produced only bad fruit, you would cut it down, so you wouldn’t have to pay taxes on a tree that produced nothing. Jesus used this as an illustration for the Judgment. Trees have a certain season to produce fruit. But after a while, that season passes. So it will be at the judgment. The season for us to produce fruits of the spirit will be several centuries long, but not eternal.
