Matthew 28:1

Young’s literal translation of Matthew 28:1 is:

“And on the eve of the sabbaths, at the dawn, toward the first of the sabbaths, came Mary the Magdalene, and the other Mary, to see the sepulchre,”.

Most other translations render this the ‘first of the week’.  Isn’t that interesting?  Young’s is right.  Jesus arose on a Saturday, not Sunday! It should be the first Sabbath in the count of seven regular weekly Sabbaths to Pentecost.  Isn’t that interesting??  Is this showing that the resurrection of both first and second born will be completed before dawn of the Millennial Sabbath?  The first 500 years of the Millennium are ‘evening’ and dark.  It is also interesting that 1 Kings 6:1 says that it was 480 years from the Exodus to the beginning of construction of Solomon’s temple.  20 years were required to complete the temple and Solomon’s palace.  That’s 500 years.

Sex and the Sabbath

There is no scripture forbidding sex on the Sabbath. Isn’t that interesting? Perhaps because the Marriage of the Lamb will occur on the Millennial Sabbath. They will have children. Sex will be involved. It’s interesting the myth that Jesus was secretly married to Mary Magdalene. He will actually marry the church and Israel.

Hebrews 4

“Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it. For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard. For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said,

“As I swore in My wrath,
They shall not enter My rest,”
although His works were finished from the foundation of the world. For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; and again in this passage, “They shall not enter My rest.” Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience, He again fixes a certain day, “Today,” saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before,

“Today if you hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.”
For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience. For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:1-16

Here Paul is very clearly delineating the Millennial Sabbath rest that believers look toward. Those that do not believe will find that day not so restfull as they will be tried by their own actions to repent. Believers who repent ahead of time will have a much easier time. But we will all be disciplined, as Hebrews 12 points out. A restorative discipline, not punitive.

Believer’s Mercy

“Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, while Abraham was still standing before the Lord. Abraham came near and said, “Will You indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city; will You indeed sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous who are in it? Far be it from You to do such a thing, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous and the wicked are treated alike. Far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth deal justly?” So the Lord said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare the whole place on their account.” And Abraham replied, “Now behold, I have ventured to speak to the Lord, although I am but dust and ashes. Suppose the fifty righteous are lacking five, will You destroy the whole city because of five?” And He said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.” He spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose forty are found there?” And He said, “I will not do it on account of the forty.” Then he said, “Oh may the Lord not be angry, and I shall speak; suppose thirty are found there?” And He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.” And he said, “Now behold, I have ventured to speak to the Lord; suppose twenty are found there?” And He said, “I will not destroy it on account of the twenty.” Then he said, “Oh may the Lord not be angry, and I shall speak only this once; suppose ten are found there?” And He said, “I will not destroy it on account of the ten.” As soon as He had finished speaking to Abraham the Lord departed, and Abraham returned to his place.” Genesis 18:22-33

Abraham was very concerned about justice, leaning to the side of mercy. Although God’s wrath can be severe, he will spare the wicked if but one righteous person is present. With the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot and his family had to leave before God would pour out his wrath.

Bible Chronology

While perusing websites having to do with prophecy and end times matters, it is striking how most have the wrong chronology. Bishop Usher’s famous dating of Adam to 4004BC is perhaps the most famous. Many websites don’t even bother with chronology and instead use astronomical signs or guesses about where Daniel’s seventieth week falls. They almost uniformly assume a human antichrist reigning for seven years, followed by an apocalyptic sudden return of Jesus. Even though parts of this interpretation may be correct, it ignores many other features of the second coming, not to mention timing. Many guess that Jesus will return in 2017 or 2024 or 2028. I’d be willing to bet they’re all wrong. It is for this reason the ungodly: “They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 2 Peter 3:4

Wasn’t what their forefathers said at the first coming? They were convinced he was not the Messiah. It will be the same the second time around. Jesus first advent ended dramatically. But it started virtually unnoticed. It will be the same the second time around.

Isaiah 27

“In that day the Lord will start His threshing from the flowing stream of the Euphrates to the brook of Egypt, and you will be gathered up one by one, O sons of Israel. It will come about also in that day that a great trumpet will be blown, and those who were perishing in the land of Assyria and who were scattered in the land of Egypt will come and worship the Lord in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.” Isaiah 27:12-13

What day it this referring to? The Sabbath Millennium? Possibly. What is the great trumpet? Is this a great judgment heading westward from the Euphrates? It seems that this is hinting about the destruction of the Assyrians, then their resurrection.

The Noah Movie

The Noah Movie is a loose account of the biblical story. That’s being generous. It’s clearly an attempt to twist the story. In it, the fallen angels help Noah build the ark. They are said to have tried to help Adam & Eve (how is not described), and were banished to earth by an angry, vengeful ‘creator’. “The Creator” is referred to numerous times. One is left with the impression that this impersonal God is capricious, angry, and mysterious. Noah has a very bad dream whereby he senses that ‘the creator’ is going to destroy the world. He’s not sure why. He even goes so far that near the end Noah thinks even he and his family are being punished! Only the animals are innocent. As the flood approaches, Tubal-Cain leads an army of people trying to rush the ark. Then the fallen angels (in the form of giant stone monsters) defend the ark. Tubal-Cain actually makes it onto the ark. Both Ham and Japheth do not have wives. Shem’s wife gets pregnant and gives birth on the ark. Then Noah is about to murder the babies! There is so much wrong with the movie, it’s hard to know where to start.

Clearly, God was not vague to Noah about what was to happen:

“Then God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make the ark with rooms, and shall cover it inside and out with pitch. This is how you shall make it: the length of the ark three hundred cubits, its breadth fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. 16 You shall make a window for the ark, and finish it to a cubit from the top; and set the door of the ark in the side of it; you shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. Behold, I, even I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall perish. 18 But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. 20 Of the birds after their kind, and of the animals after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. As for you, take for yourself some of all food which is edible, and gather it to yourself; and it shall be for food for you and for them.” Thus Noah did; according to all that God had commanded him, so he did.” Genesis 6:13-21

God was not mad at Noah. Just the opposite:
“These are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his time; Noah walked with God.” Genesis 6:9

In the movie, Noah kills a lot. Although the bible is silent on this, we can infer that this was not the case.
“For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;” 2 Peter 2:4-5

Here we’re given the reason for the flood. This is not brought out in the movie. The movie has God and Tubal-Cain as bad guys. The fallen angels are good guys. Noah is both a good and bad guy. Such moral ambiguity is probably not an accident. And the serpent is a bad guy, yet there are several scenes with snake skin used in blessings! Apparently that’s a little luciferian.

The Name Noah

Noah comes from the Hebrew Noach, which means restful or comfort. Isn’t that interesting? The coming of the Son of Man will be as in the days of Noah. His coming will bring rest and comfort. He comes in the Sabbath ‘year’, the seven thousand-year period since the fall of Adam. Hasn’t the burden of work eased in the last 140 years? The miracle of technology has lightened the burden of work that has cursed man since the fall.

Unctuous Christians

Have you ever been approached by someone asking if you’ve been SAVED? Or concerned because you’re not attending a religious ceremony they deem essential to your eternity? And yet these people often don’t even ask how your day went! Isn’t something very wrong with this picture? These actions give Christianity a bad smell. Notice how Jesus didn’t use this approach? He never went up to anyone and brazenly asked if they were SAVED. He never implied that they were in danger of second death for not attending this ceremony or that feast. He did warn people to turn from their sins, but only after he got to know them and gave them sight or some other blessing. Those that are concerned about strangers’ salvation are making themselves God. Again, notice the contrast with Jesus’ and the disciples’ ways of ministering. If someone doesn’t care about you in the little things, how dare they ask you the deepest questions?
