Gog & Magog

There are only two scriptures regarding the battle of Gog & Magog:

“And the word of the Lord came to me saying, “Son of man, set your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal.” Ezekiel 38:1-3

“When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison, and will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the sand of the seashore. And they came up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and devoured them.” Revelation 20:7-9

It appears from these two scriptures that the battle of Gog & Magog has two fulfillments, one before Christ comes down and sets up Ezekiel’s Temple, and another at the end of the thousand years. Regarding the first battle, Ezekiel tells us:

“On that day I will give Gog a burial ground there in Israel, the valley of those who pass by east of the sea, and it will block off those who would pass by. So they will bury Gog there with all his horde, and they will call it the valley of Hamon-gog. For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to cleanse the land.” Ezekiel 39:11-12

“As those who pass through the land pass through and anyone sees a man’s bone, then he will set up a marker by it until the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamon-gog.” Ezekiel 39:15

Immortality revisited

Depending on which version you look at, there are three to eight scriptures about immortality.

“In the way of righteousness there is life;
along that path is immortality.” Proverbs 12:28
“Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.” Romans 1:22-23
“To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.” Romans 2:7
“in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 1 Corinthians 15:52-54
“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Timothy 1:17
“which God will bring about in his own time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.” 1 Timothy 6:15-16
“but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.” 2 Timothy 1:10

If we synthesize all these passages, a few things become apparent. 1 Corinthians 15:52-54 seems to say that immortality is instant upon resurrection. But it also connects immortality with the elimination of death. 2 Timothy 1:10 also links immortality to Christ destroying death. This brings to mind:

“For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death.” 1 Corinthians 15:25-26

Since death will not be destroyed until the end of the Millennium, can we assume that immortality will not commence till then? Must all death be destroyed before immortality begins? It’s interesting that a couple of the scriptures above say that only God the Father is immortal. Why doesn’t it say that Jesus is immortal?

Love & Respect

Dr. Emerson Eggerichs has done a good job of highlighting these two important things for Men & Women. Unfortunately, Satan wants to destroy the family, and one of his subtle lies has been teaching that wives should love their husbands. Sounds fine, no? It doesn’t work.

What’s the number one way to show anyone respect? Listening! Where there is no listening, there is no conversation. Without conversation, there is no relationship! Husbands & wives need to listen to each other. If anyone has trouble paying attention, this is a big problem. Another killer of respect is control. No one wants to be controlled. Yet some people would rather control another rather than knowing another.

Husbands & Wives

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.” Ephesians 5:25-27

One of the most important aspects of marriage is sanctifying your spouse.

“In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior.” 1 Peter 3:1-2

Husbands are to cleanse their wives. But what if the wife is disrespectful or resentful? This is practice for the kingdom! The whole point of the church is to act as parents in bringing the rest of mankind back to a state of righteousness. And guess who we’re responsible for? Those we’re closest to. The most extreme case would be a spouse who qualifies for heaven, and their spouse who ultimately dies second death. How do you steer an obstinate wife? Clearly there has to be corrections much as you would guide an errant child. When there is a qualm, it must be spoken about. If he or she will not listen, you bring it up in the presence of another Christian. Notice that the 1 Peter passage is the same for wives with a problematic husband. Notice, however, that she is not to tell him what to do! She is merely to walk the talk. In this way she maintains respect.

Two Hopes

When you talk to Christians, do you ever get the idea that they don’t really believe it? How many Christians show dispair over this life as if this is it? They don’t really believe in the resurrection. And their hope of heaven is very vague. When every memorial service contains mention that the deceased are now in heaven free of pain, evidently there’s not much effort required?

Imagine two hopes. One is the very real possibility of going on vacation to Hawaii next year. The other is the hope of winning the lottery. It seems that most Christians’ hope of heaven is like the hope of winning the lottery. They don’t know what it is, or why it is, or when it is, or for whom it is. Contrast this to true Christians for whom heaven is very real and prominent in their minds. Why? Because they search the scriptures diligently and are intimate with the details. If you want to go to Hawaii next year, you probably know what the weather will be like, what the fish might look like, what hotel you might stay at, etc. If you want to win the lottery, you don’t put much effort into planning your dream home since the possibility is so remote. Heaven is for those who want to do more work in the restoration of the Kingdom.

Daniel 9 revisited

“Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy place. So you are to know and discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress. Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined. And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.” Daniel 9:24-27

This had literal fulfillment from 455BC to 36AD. But could it have fulfillment at the second coming? The vision includes making atonement. The Day of Atonement? Proportionally this is about the 527th year out of 1000. Harry Truman decided in 1946 to essentially creat modern Israel. 1946+490 is just past the 561st year out of 1000, the special eighth day of Tabernacles. Perhaps by then the most holy place will be rededicated (Ezekiel’s Temple)? The Balfour Declaration of 1917 meant to create a modern Israel, although it was not fully carried out. 1917+490 is 2407, or the 533rd year into the Millennium. This is just past the antitypical Day of Atonement. Notice also that in Daniel’s prophecy ‘it’s end will come with a flood’. Does this relate to, ‘the coming of the Son of Man will be as in the days of Noah’s (flood)’? Perhaps there is a contentious period near the end where antichrist will do huge battle, and Jesus will come down and stand on the Mount of Olives (Zechariah 14). There will be an enormous earthquake. All (who survive) will see this and bow the knee to Jesus, just as the Ninevites did at the preaching of Jonah (just after Uzziah’s earthquake)? This is speculative and not provable at this point, but fun to think about!

The Last Trump

“Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.” 1 Corinthians 15:51-53

When is this Last Trumpet? Is the last trump the same as ‘the trumpet will sound’? Which trumpet are we talking about? From a Jewish perspective the last trumpet was sounded at the feast of trumpets, Tishri 1-2. The first trumpet was sounded at Pentecost, and Tishri 10 was known as the great trumpet. What does this tell us prophetically about the timing of the resurrection?

We know that Jesus ascended to the Father 40 days after his resurrection, ten days before Pentecost. He was the Firstfruits,

“But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.” 1 Corinthians 15:20

After Jesus, “But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.” 1 Corinthians 15:23

So the resurrection of the church begins when he returns. The Feast of Trumpets being the Last Trumpet, shows that all will have been resurrected by that time. The Feast of Trumpets is just before the start of the Jubilee on Yom Kippur. Exactly half way through the year. When we see that the Millennium is the seventh 1000 year period since the fall of Adam, we can see that beginning the 501st year of the Millennium marks the fulfillment of the Feast of Trumpets. Therefore the resurrection (of all) spans over 2300 years! It is easy to read many websites saying the last trumpet is soon and we will all be raptured happily ever after. Not so! Earl Palmer’s imperative “lean not luxurious” is very apropos here! Remember that Jesus warned of ‘wars and rumors of wars’. Notice the plural! Let us not fall into traps like, “88 reasons the rapture will occur in 1988”.

Two Interesting Times

After both forty day periods in Noah’s flood are two interesting times. The first is from the seventeenth of the seventh month to the first of the tenth month. That is day 150 to day 223. The second is from the first of the first month of the second year to the twenty-seventh of the second month. That is the 313th day to the 370th day. Do these periods correspond to the completion of the Firstborn Bride and the completion of the great company? The fact that there is a range of times suggests that God does not want us to know the exact time of fulfillment. He also wants to keep Satan off-step.
