“At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered. Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.”
Then I, Daniel, looked, and there before me stood two others, one on this bank of the river and one on the opposite bank. One of them said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?”
The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives forever, saying, “It will be for a time, times and half a time. When the power of the holy people has been finally broken, all these things will be completed.”
I heard, but I did not understand. So I asked, “My lord, what will the outcome of all this be?”
He replied, “Go your way, Daniel, because the words are rolled up and sealed until the time of the end. Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.
“From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days.
“As for you, go your way till the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance.” Daniel 12
This passage covers a longer period of time than most people realize. A time, times, and half a time is three and a half prophetic years or 1260 days. It’s also 1260 years. There are multiple fulfillments to this. The first started with the ten tribes destroyed by Assyria in 722BC. 1260 years later Papacy gets involved with civil affairs using military force to put down the nontrinitarian Arians at Ravenna in 539AD. 1260 years later, the pope loses much power at the hands of Napoleon in 1799AD. 1335 years after 539AD is 1874AD, which is exactly 6,000 years after the fall of Adam. There’s also a period of 1260 years from Nebuchadnezzar’s conquest of Palestine in 603BC to 658AD when Sunni Muslims dominate civil power in Palestine. From there, 1260 years lead to 1918AD when the Turkish resistance collapses and Islamic Arabs are no longer in total control of Palestine. 1290 years from 658AD is 1948, the start of the war for independence where Israel becomes a modern nation. 1335 years from 658 is 1993, when Israel and the PLO sign the Declaration of principles on interim self government and the Vatican officially recognizes Israel. The 2300 years of Daniel has a couple fulfillments. The lesser known is from May 334BC when Alexander the Great attacked and overthrew Persia. 2300 years later is 1967 when Jerusalem was restored to Israel. These insights are courtesy of Paul Mezera.
