I’ve just returned from vacation, or holiday as they say in Britain. Holiday comes from Holy Day, which is appropriate. YHWH’s calendar laid out in Leviticus gives everyone the seventh day off, plus seven days off at Passover, a day off fifty days removed from first fruits, a day off on the first of the seventh month, a day off on the tenth of the seventh month, and finally eight days off from the 15th to the 22nd of the seventh month. It also appears that the first day of every month was a day off, if not a celebration. Then the Israelites got the entire seventh year off!! And, every fifty years, the seventh year and the eighth year off! YHWH clearly wants us to rest and even periodically party.
