“I saw no Temple in the city, for Adonai, God of heaven’s armies, is its Temple, as is the Lamb. The city has no need for the sun or the moon to shine on it, because God’s Sh’khinah gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. Its gates will never close, they stay open all day because night will not exist there.” Revelation 21:22-25
Night will not exist there?
“On entering, he said to them, “Why all this commotion and weeping? The child isn’t dead, she’s just asleep!” And they jeered at him. But he put them all outside, took the child’s father and mother and those with him, and went in where the child was. Taking her by the hand, he said to her, “Talita, kumi!” (which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). At once the girl got up and began walking around; she was twelve years old. Everybody was utterly amazed. He gave them strict orders to say nothing about this to anyone, and told them to give her something to eat.” Matthew 5:39-43
Jesus equates death with sleep. Why? Because we will all awake from death!
“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as indeed the rest of mankind do, who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose from the dead, so also God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep through Jesus. For we say this to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will not precede those who have fallen asleep.” 1 Thessalonians 4:13-15
What is the purpose of sleep? It seems to be to organize memories in the brain. And so it will be when we awake from death. We will remember what happened in our first life. This will be important as we seek to come into harmony with those around us and march into eternal life, passing the ultimate test which Adam & Eve failed.
The New Creation will not have sleep! There will be no more need for it. The New Creation will have many things which we can’t even imagine, much like it’s hard to image colors beyond what we know.
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9
